Main Comparing Points

Overall Value

Even though LegalZoom is a very popular company that doesn’t necessarily mean that the value they offer is higher than BizFilings.

While LegalZoom offers a base formation package of  $79 to form a corporation/LLC, they provide so many the upsells which can get expensive.

The worst part is that they do not include registered agent service with any of their formation packages. And that costs anywhere from $159-299 per year to add on.

BizFilings start with their $99 Basic package, which includes six months of registered agent (which costs $199/year after that).

When comparing BizFilings with LegalZoom alternatives, their package prices tend to be a bit more expensive.

IncAuthority for example forms LLC for $0 + states fees

Both companies were founded in the late 90s but LegalZoom does have the advantage when it comes to experience.

LegalZoom has a fairly mixed customer reviews and feedback. We found countless reviews ranging from 5-star to 1-star reviews.

BizFilings does have more than 500,000 business filings under its belt.

Unfortunately for BizFilings, we were only able to track down a few customer reviews from third-party websites. This is such a small sample size that we’re not able to do any meaningful analysis on them.

Customer Service

LegalZoom offers phone and email support. Their representatives do go into details about the different options available for you.

Also, LegalZoom provide you with an email and a direct extension so that you can reach out directly with your questions.

Overall their customer service via phone is great but their online support can use some improvements.

BizFilings also provides great phone and email support. They’ve also added a “leave a message” feature on the left side of each page on their website to be more available.

One of the best things about them is that they navigate you through their phone tree to speak with a real person FAST!!

Both of these companies generally provide solid customer support with long hours of availability. But BizFilings is a bit easier to get a hold of when you’re in need.

Ease of Use

It’s a tie!

Let’s start with LegalZoom.

Before you get to your package options, you’ll have to enter personal info and scroll through some costly up-sells.

This may make it a bit harder for you to work your way through the site with ease.

BizFillings provides you with their incorporation wizard, a very convenient tool. The wizard can help you figure out whether you should form an LLC or a corporation.

It’s for you to know that they have several third-party offers that involve the sharing or selling of your data.

The application process that LegalZoom has structured isn’t amazing. That’s because it makes you choose your add-on features before you even decide which formation package you’re adding them onto.

However, BizFilings does have third-party offers to navigate past, which wouldn’t appeal to you as a customer. We’ll call this category a tie, but it’s clear that neither company excels in this area.

Speed of Formation

LegalZoom’s turnarounds are based on which package you order, rather than which state the formation is being processed.

The supreme package lets you receive your finalized business formation documents much faster. Within 7-10 business days but their cheaper packages take as long as 30 business days.

Both companies have similar formation speeds, but they vary depending on how much money you spend on their services.

BizFilings focuses on the core business formation services – and it performs these services fast and with precision and efficiency.

With BizFillings it depends on the state you file your LLC. That is what really determines the turnaround.

Some states have expedited processing times – in as little as a few business days – while others take a few weeks.

The most affordable option would give you a 4-6 week turnaround, which you can cut to 7-10 business days with their more expensive plans.

One of the best features you can use when upgrading to a bigger package is their expedited processing.

This will cost you $60 extra, but they will prioritize your order above non-expedited orders. It must be noted that this doesn’t speed anything up with the state.

They also have official state expediting fees on top of their in-house fee. But again, there’s no sign of how much this option will speed up your turnaround time.

Neither of these companies provides staggering turnaround times!

But LegalZoom has the edge due to BizFilings’ unappealing expediting upcharge.

BizFilings vs LegalZoom : Pros & Cons

Cons of BizFillings:

  • Customer Reviews – We’ve only managed to find a few customer reviews for BizFillings from third-party websites.

Cons of LegalZoom:

  • Cost of Service – LegalZoom is significantly more expensive when it comes to services like an operating agreement and EIN.

Just in case you’re a recent startup and your budget is way below both of these companies. Don’t worry, you can see this Review of Incfile we made, a company with one of the most affordable LLC formation packages.

Overall, they’re both good options to file and form your company.

You can find similarities between them but also quite a few differences, It all depends on what your specific business needs are and which features suit you best.

To summarise all of this, we believe that BizFillings would be a great choice because of the benefits their features provide and their affordability.

And LegalZoom is the right way to go if you’re after experience in the field and a proven track record with over a million satisfied business clients.

You can be sure that together LegalZoom and BizFillings will give you great services while saving you hundreds over hiring a lawyer.
